During my time covering sports for MassLive, my favorite stories used sports as a lens to explore something bigger: a look at how one Springfield high school girls basketball team kept its players in school and took care of them off the court, or what it’s like for a veteran minor-league hockey goalie, his wife and his two young daughters to move to a new city almost every year for his career. Outside of sports, I love writing about travel, music and culture, and you can find some of that work here. I also write fiction and essays, which you can find here.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, biking, playing music or playing hockey. I recently moved back to Pittsburgh to begin graduate school after spending nine years in Massachusetts. I had the great fortune to study abroad twice in college, first exploring Ireland, then immersing myself in Spanish language and South American culture in Peru. I will eat breakfast food for any meal, and I’m on a lifelong quest for the best home fries I can find. (Right now, Silver Spoon in Easthampton, Mass. is the frontrunner.)
For a mix of stray music thoughts and sighing about the Pirates, you can find my Twitter account here. Send Pittsburgh diner recommendations (or just say hey) to anniem9109 at gmail dot com.
